Šárka Strachová

She was born in the Krkonoše Mountains, where her father introduced her to alpine skiing from an early age. She achieved her first successes at the Junior World Championships. First in 2004 in Maribor, Slovenia, she won bronze medals in the combined and slalom, and the following year in Bardonecchia, Italy, she became junior world champion in slalom. That same year she also shone at the World Championships in Santa Caterina, again in the combined and slalom – 5th place and a bronze medal.
Her life’s greatest achievement was the 2007 World Championships in the Swedish resort of Åre, along with the title of world champion in slalom and an excellent 4th place in slalom. After five podium finishes in World Cup races, she achieved victory in November 2008 in Aspen, USA. At the 2009 World Championships in Val d’Isère, she completed her collection of world medals with second place in slalom. She also excelled in the same discipline at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver – under difficult weather conditions, she won the bronze medal. By then, she was already training under the guidance of her current husband, Antonín Strach. She climbed the podium again at the 2015 World Championships in Beaver Creek with third place. She said goodbye to her racing career in March 2017 after finishing second in a World Cup race. She then founded and runs a holistic therapy and sports clinic.
